Over the past two years, I have slowly pivoted my leather working hobby into a small business that focuses on long lasting bush craft goods and custom work. The creation of Buffalo River Leatherworks has been a labor of creativity, and one that has required numerous steps back to ensure that only the best product is provided. However, each of those steps has provided an opportunity for the company to move forward or pivot and has created a number of unique connections within the community to ensure the availability of top quality materials. For this experience, I pushed the company into a word of mouth and referral process as online orders often led to a significant investment in designing and prototyping potential projects that never fully panned out. With the current process, each piece is thoroughly discussed and designed with input from the customer which helped develop a more personal relationship for all individuals involved. This relationship has increased the overall product satisfaction and the actual final sales numbers of high quality leather goods.
